Well guys----I have not seen anyone post a single thing and you guys were supposed to be posting from Wednesday night until Tuesday night ----so I am posting this again and want to see everyone post an answer. There will be another post Tuesday night that will last until Friday 6PM. For now do this one first!
We must Identify a Problem that we are interested in researching and apply the findings in the real world (practical application to Criminal Justice)
I would like for you guys to post some ideas you might have for "PROBLEMS" you have identified in the Criminal Justice Arena....... Let's have a brief discussion about this for a few days.

I think that there are a couple problems within the Criminal Justice system. Unfortunately, we have them and we need to try our best to find a solution for them. One of the major problems, at least that I think is a major problem is police corruption. Police are individuals that we are supposed to look up to for help and be able to trust. How can you trust such individuals when you have some police officers making deals and cutting corners for some extra cash? Police corruption is something that in my lifetime hopefully I would want to see a solution for, so my children and their children could live safer lives.
Another problem with the system would be not having enough help for the individuals that come out of jails and prisons. What I’m trying to say is that many people that are incarcerated and are let out, soon quickly find themselves back into the system again, why? If we had programs in place perhaps we would have fewer individuals in jails/prisons which would help us with our other problem of overcrowding in these facilities. When I am saying programs, I am talking about perhaps financial assistance, job placements, etc. People are not exactly jumping for joy to help a convict out. When a convict is backed into a corner they are just going to do what they know best, and that is to commit another crime.
I personally think that there is still racism within the criminal justice system. If there are two cars driving down the street, they are both BMW’s and the only difference is the driver which one happens to be white and the other black. Who do you think that they are going to pull over first? Unfortunately, I feel that still today there is racism and it honestly disgusts me. This is another problem that I think should be addressed and fixed.
An ongoing problem I find in the Criminal Justice system is sentencing guidelines. I believe that our sentencing guidelines are not always fair and that they do not always apply to every individual the same way. I hear cases where a recurring felon gets out of prison and continues to commit crimes and only because he is not committing the same crime he will receive a lesser punishment. It is very sad to have people constantly become victims through reoffending criminals. We should have more strict sentencing laws when dealing with dangerous criminals that commit serious crimes against others. We should not be so lenient when someone commits a dangerous crime against another person and have them receive a lesser sentence simply because they are first time offenders or have a small criminal history record. We need to have laws in place to help prevent these individuals get out of prison and possibly commit the same crimes over again. On the same token I feel that there are certain crimes that do not deserve a strict sentence and some individuals end up spending a long time in prison for no reason and in the end it still does not make a difference. In some cases the individual does not even deserve to be put in prison and once they are there and are released, they are now institutionalized and are now probably more prone to commit crimes than when they went in, in the first place. Overall, this is what I believe is a problem in our Criminal Justice system.

A problem that I would like to discuss and research as much information as I can is inaccuracies with how crime is reported by different government agencies to the public. The 2 biggest reporting agencies, the UCR (Unified Crime Reports) and the NCVS (National Crime Victimization Survey) are always conflicting with one another. There should be another way of reporting crime that can be more accurate than these.
so far....some ideas for problems are:
police corruption
sentencing disparities
crime reporting disparities
good start....let's hear from the others
A big problem that affects the criminal justice system is the law, it is not fear, one set of rule for one set of people and another set for the other. What i mean is if you are rich the punishment you receive is completely different from the not so rich person. This problem as been going on for a very long time. A crime is a crime it doesn't matter who commits it the punishment should be the same.
those of you who did not blog by this hour have been marked absent for Wed. I am now posting another assignment that will be due by Friday
A problem that I have noticed and experienced myself is discrimination. Not just racism but sexism and ageism. From what I have noticed from my own experience is that cops will hassle anyone and anytime and just claim they are doing there job. One time I was sitting in front of my friends house with some other friends waiting for the owner to come home and three cops just ran up on us accusing of staking out the house and being up to no good. Even after we explained what we were doing they still did not believe us. Only until my friend came home and told the police who we were and what we were doing did they finally realize they were wasting their's and our time when they could have been doing something productive instead of hassling us. I don't think i am the only person this has happened to and i doubt its the last time it will happen. When i asked the cops why they were harassing us they said we looked suspicious and that we were probably up to no good. They even threatened to get the k-9 dogs out to sniff for drugs.
Dr. Telesco, it's now Thursday 8:15p and I do not see any new postings to be done for tomorrow.
